THE TANK MEMORIAL YPRES SALIENT located in the village of Poelkapelle, West Flanders, Belgium.

The TANK MEMORIAL YPRES SALIENT commemorates 243 WW1 
TANK CORPS soldiers, commemorated by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission in Belgium.

Also commemorated; a single WW2 ROYAL TANK REGIMENT soldier rests nearby in Cement House CWGC cemetery.
 

The memorial information board reveals dedicated text in Dutch, French, English & German along with a superb image of the British tank D29 Damon II originally placed for display close to where the TMYS proudly stands today.

TANK MEMORIAL YPRES SALIENT "GARDEN OF REMEMBRANCE"

The Garden contains 244 personalised poppy tributes, one for each WW1 and WW2 tank soldier commemorated by the TMYS. Each is fixed into a wooden beam system emulating the concrete system as used by the CWGC for headstone fixing within their cemeteries. The garden also contains flanders fields soil collected from the Ypres Salient battlefields where Tank Corps soldiers fought and fell.

The "garden" is stored in a secure room within the Langemark-Poelkapelle town hall and is placed at the memorial during the annual ceremony.

Throughout 2017-18, the garden will be on public display in the 
town hall foyer during dedicated Tank Corps action dates as will the "Book of Remembrance" which will be available for signature. 

On conclusion of 2018 the book will be placed within the TMYS archives in perpetuity.




























The TANK MEMORIAL YPRES SALIENT acknowledgement letter received from BUCKINGHAM PALACE along with Her Majesty's Britannic Ambassador to Belgium commendation. 

On receipt of the above letter signed by Sonia Bonici, Senior Correspondence Secretary to HM the Queen's Private Secretary at Buckingham Palace, key persons who assisted Chris & Milena with the creation and construction of the TMYS in due course received 
Her Majesty's Britannic Ambassador to Belgium commendations. 
 
These were presented on conclusion of a special commemoration reception held within the British Ambassador's residence in Brussels where Her Excellency, Ambassador Dr Rachel Aaron offered the following statement to all present:
 
On behalf of Her Majesty's Government and her people, I thank Chris and his committee for their dedication and for their great achievement on behalf of the tank crews lost in the Ypres Salient.

THE TANK MEMORIAL YPRES SALIENT STANDARD


The current TMYS Standard & Standard Bearer Mr Wayne Evans, formerly of the Royal Armoured Corps, 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards & Cheshire Yeomanry Squadron, The Queen's own Yeomanry.

















THE TANK MEMORIAL YPRES SALIENT LEGACY CD contains a unique photograph of every soldier's grave or memorial listing commemorated.

Also included are the CWGC burial/memorial, personal military/civil details where known, applicable to each soldier.
 
Each soldier's grave or memorial received a dedicated visit, poppy tribute & Exhortation with details being registered in the cemetery/memorial visitors book. This being on top of every commemorated soldier having a personalised poppy cross fixed within the memorial's dedicated garden of remembrance.

Copies of the TMYS Legacy CD have since been placed into the care of Royal Tank Regiment RHQ & Bovington Tank Museum.

The joint 2012 HM Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee & 
TANK MEMORIAL YPRES SALIENT ceremony "Commemoration Medal"

In order to commemorate the unique 2012 HM Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee & the 2012 TMYS annual ceremony, a one off run of commemorative medals were created & purchased by the TMYS founders to celebrate this joint commemoration.
*The medal design is the result of an official nationals schools competition coupled with accompanying ribbon bearing the colours of the TANK CORPS & RTR. 
 
The Honorary President, Vice President, Board of Administrators, the TMYS Standard Bearer & assistant memorial pipers each received the medal with accompanying diploma during the concluding reception.

The "Champion of the Tank" certificate reveals the limited but valuable assistance the Friends of the TMYS were able to offer this most important "Home Front Tank Memorial" the LINCOLN TANK.
